BISMARCK, N.D. — A team of expert technical specialists from the Tennessee Valley Authority, TVA, is in North Dakota working with federal, state and local officials on the recovery from the January 20-25 ice storms.
The TVA was one of the most ambitious projects of President Roosevelt and the “New Deal.” It is a name that conjures up the American dream to harness the potential electrical power of the Tennessee River in the Appalachian Mountain region for rural electrification. Hard working people brought the dream to reality and this public works project helped turn around the Great Depression.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is pleased to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)-sponsored 2010 National Flood Safety Awareness Week, observed March 15-19 (http://www.floodsafety.noaa.gov/). Flooding is a coast to coast threat in the United States and its territories in all months of the year, irrespective of local “flood seasons.” According to FEMA Acting Regional Administrator Dennis Hunsinger, flooding is the nation’s number one natural disaster.

Spring Ahead To Prepare For Disasters
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Daylight Savings Time in the United States starts on the second Sunday in March of each year and the Federal Emergency Management Agency encourages all Americans to use the change to daylight savings time to update emergency preparedness plans. For years, firefighters and safety professionals at every level have asked the public to change smoke alarm batteries throughout their homes, as they move their clocks ahead. According to FEMA Acting Regional Administrator Dennis Hunsinger, the March ritual of making homes safer from fire is also a great opportunity to review disaster response plans and restock disaster kits.
